HARDWARE
TecQuipment's Buckling of Struts structures teaching equipment hardware consists of high-quality educational apparatus which provides a means of compressing struts (slender columns) until they reach the critical buckling load. This enables engineering students to explore buckling behaviour and the relationship between strut length, end fixing conditions and buckling load.
To perform buckling of struts experiments, a screw compresses the struts and an integral load cell measures applied load. The apparatus includes five aluminium struts.
Other items include chucks, a vernier, a magnetic deflection scale, a lead to connect to a Digital Force Display (STR1a), all necessary tools, a student guide and a lecturer guide.

VIRTUAL EXPERIMENTS
The Buckling of Struts Virtual Experiments Software enables computer simulation of experiments working with or without the Structures teaching hardware. It expands the scope of experimentation beyond the limits of the hardware, allowing students to visualise, tabulate and graph data, reducing the time required for students to obtain, process and present results. It also enables students to edit the cross-sectional shape of specimens, its dimensions and Young's modulus. During simulations, the software displays theoretical buckling load. This allows students to realistically, efficiently and conveniently investigate and compare the properties of a wide selection of struts under varying applied loads.
The Virtual Experiments Software is available in a variety of multi-user and networked options, as well as single-user format.
